Monograms on Main opened Sept. 22 at 135 Main St. and business has been good ever since. Although she doesn’t do embroidery on the spot, Whittaker’s quick turn around is helping her keep up with demand. She has a number of repeat customers, but there have been a lot of walk-ins too, Whittaker said.

“There is so much business and I can’t wait to do the embroidery every day. I can’t wait to come to work. It’s amazing,” she said.

Whittaker’s daughter Anne Emson, who is getting ready to move to New York, helped her open the store. Emson is happy to see her mom doing something that’s fulfilling and showcases her creative talent.

“She’s always been so creative and artsy. This is really wonderful for her,” Emson said. “It’s a great place to stop by for bridal gifts, shower gifts or baby gifts … she has a little of everything.”

In addition to the items she sells, Whittaker is happy to work on embroidery for items customers bring-in. She’s also open to working with customers on projects that may not fit the usual designs. For example, someone came by a couple weeks ago and wanted a mother-daughter apron set with pies on them. Whittaker downloaded a pie design, embroidered some custom phrases and filled the request.
